This was a long time coming, I guess.
I’ve wanted to get back into writing for a while now, but life seemed to get in the way. Beyond a couple of articles for Moviejawn, I haven’t written with any regularity since college. I’ve had a few people (friends, relatives, therapists, etc.) encourage me to get back into it.
But why now?
I guess I’ve been slowly getting out of “survival mode” since the start of the pandemic. The theater I worked at on weekends to make ends meet closed up for a while. I haven’t had that kind of regular time off in my adult life. Luckily, the stimulus checks and the pause in my student loan payments helped me to stay afloat financially.
Then last year, due to a change in eligibility, I was able to have my student loans forgiven. This has been such an psychological (and financial) weight lifted off my shoulders. I feel like I could finally see a light at the end of the tunnel. I feel like I can now work on other aspects of my life.
What will I be writing about? Well, for the longest time, I didn’t have cable so I amassed a number of DVD’s, CD’s and Blu-ray’s; they were usually bought used or deeply discounted. There’s a large amount of it that I haven’t watched or listened to in ages, if ever.
So, I see this as a space to revisit all these things or experience them for the first time. Also, I go to numerous repertory film screenings in the area and I’ll do write-ups about those since a lot of them are first-time viewings as well.
Beyond that, I’m sure there’s other things that come up that I’ll want to say something about. We’ll see what comes up as I go along…
